On this page, you will find a selection of common questions that we are asked regarding our products.  The list is not exhaustive, however you may find the answer to your questions in amongst the list below.

Gearless Centre Differential

What are the benefits of the GCD?

The GCD has several benefits, particularly in mining use:

  1. Safety.  The vehicle is safer to drive due the “wind-up” being eliminated from the drive train.  Wind-Up is what happens when the vehicles wheels “fight” each other – They want to turn at different speeds when cornering.  The GCD eliminates this effect meaning that the vehicle is more drivable, and therefore safer.
  2. Maintenance.  The above-mentioned wind-up creates an enormous amount of stress and strain on the entire drive train.  By eliminating that stress, the on-going running costs of the vehicle are greatly reduced.  The main area where this is evident is with the CV Joints.  The feedback from some customers indicates a life expectancy for CV Joints of around 7 to 10 times that of a vehicle without a GCD fitted.
  3. Cost Savings.  With the true cost of around $1500 to $2000 to replace a set of CV Joints including bearings etc, the initial outlay of the GCD would effectively be paid for in full within the first 9 to 12 months of use in a mining vehicle – In some cases even less.  Added to this is the savings in downtime of the vehicle, making the GCD an investment for the future.
How difficult is it to install GCD's?

Although not a task to be taken lightly, the installation of the GCD is relatively simple.  The transfer case does not have to be removed from the vehicle to complete the installation.

With the correct equipment on hand, installing a GCD into a vehicle should take no longer than 3 hours or so.  Many experienced installers and mechanics can install them in considerably less time.

The availability of a car hoist makes the installation a lot simpler.

Split CV Boots

Do I need to remove my CV Joint to fit the Split CV Boots?

There is no need to remove your CV Joints to fit or change the Split CV Boots, unless you are changing the felt kit as well.

The Split CV Boots are designed to be long lasting and offer great protection from the elements.  We do advise that you check your felts on the CV housing and fit these at the same time if they are becoming worn or hard.

Is there anything in particular to be aware of when fitting the Split CV Boots?

You need to be careful not to squash or pinch the accordion section of the Split CV Boot when putting the oil seal ratainers on.  This may tear the boot, and this is not covered by warranty.  Aside from that, just ensure that all bolts are tightened to the correct torque settings which are provided in the installation instructions.

What else is required to fit the Split CV Boots to my Cruiser?

Although nothing else is required to fit the Split CV Boots, we do recommend fitting new felts and oil seal retainers if your vehicle has been used in wet or adverse conditions.  These are not expensive to purchase, however you will need to remove the CV Joint to replace the felt seal.

Can I adapt your Split CV Boots to fit a 75 series Cruiser?

Unfortunately our split boots are designed exclusively for 78, 79, 80, 105 and 70 series Landcruisers and they cannot be made to fit the 75 series.

Exhaust Brakes

I want to add an exhaust brake to my vehicle. Is it possible?

In general, Exhaust Brakes work best with vehicles that do not have an engine ECU/Exhaust Gas Sensors.  Adding an Exhaust Brake to a vehicle which has an engine ECU or Exhaust Gas Sensors can be troublesome and you may find it difficult to obtain good operation and good fuel economy.

Some additional items may be required if the vehicle has a turbo fitted.  This is generally an EGR blanking plate, although a small hole in the blanking plate will be required on some vehicles.

For older vehicles that are not turbo and do not have any exhaust gas sensors fitted, they should work extremely well.

What is required to install an Exhaust Brake?

Exhaust Brakes will require:

  • A section around 80mm removed from the exhaust pipe
  • A point where vacuum can be obtained from the engine
  • Some mechanical skills to fit the Exhaust Brake Butterfly Valve
  • Some electrical knowledge to install the electrical aspect of the Exhaust Brake
  • Fitting the clutch and accelerator switches

Full instructions are provided, however as these were designed for Toyota Land Cruisers, some modifications may be required particularly to the clutch and accelerator switch mounting brackets.

FlashLube Oil Catch Can

Can I install a FlashLube Catch Can Pro on my petrol vehicle?

Yes.  Some petrol vehicles will benefit more than others with, however there is no reason why you can’t install one on a petrol vehicle.

Can the FlashLube Catch Can Pro handle synthetic oil?

The FlashLube Catch Can Pro has been manufactured to be able to be used with all grades of oil.

How often should I change the FlashLube Catch Can Pro element?

It depends on the amount of soot that is being returned through the FlashLube Catch Can Pro, but the average life of the filter is around 20,000 kms.

If there is oil leaking from the bottom of the FlashLube Catch Can Pro Bypass Valve, then it is time to replace the element.  Note: You should only use genuine FlashLube Catch Can Pro filter elements.  Aftermarket filter elements are sub-standard and do not perform the same as the genuine FlashLube Catch Can Pro filter element.

My vehicle already has a substantial amount of kilometres on it. Will the FlashLube Catch Can Pro still be of benefit to my engine?

Definetely!  The FlashLube Catch Can Pro can stop further carbon build up from occuring, therby extending the service life of your engine.  Ideally, the FlashLube Catch Can Pro should be installed as soon as possible after you purchase your vehicle.

How do I go about ordering from Gearing Dynamics?

For Individuals:

The simplest way to order from us is by contacting us via our Contact Us page.  Simply provide the following information and we will send you an invoice which can be paid via Bank transfer:

  • What you want to order and what quantities of each item
  • Your full name
  • Your full address
  • Your phone number

The invoice we send you will have our banking details which can be paid via Internet Banking or over the counter at any Bendigo Bank branch.  Once we see your payment in our account, your order will generally ship within 24 hours.

For Companies and Businesses:

Use the Contact page to enquire about creating an account with us.  We will require the following information:

  • Business Name
  • Accounts Address
  • Delivery Address
  • ABN or ACN
  • Contact Person
  • Accounts Email Address
  • Products you intend to purchase
  • The carrier account number if you wish to use your own carrier to deliver your orders.

Note that for new accounts, we do impose a credit limit for the first 3 months or first 6 orders.

How will our order be shipped?

Shipping of orders varies depending on the products being ordered and the customer requirements.

For Individuals:

If you are ordering smaller orders such as Split CV Boots, Felt Seal Kits or other small items, we will use Australia Post Express Post service.  For larger orders, we will use TNT or a similar carrier.

For Companies and Businesses:

Our preference is to use your carrier with your shipping account.  This generally works out more cost effective and allows for faster processing of orders.
